To support the restoration of Beirut’s schools, heritage buildings, museums and creative economy, UNESCO launched an international appeal on 27 August.
A deadly explosion in Beirut earlier this month left many buildings damaged. The devastating explosion shook the Lebanese capital and wreaked havoc across the city, killing nearly 200 people, injuring thousands and leaving some 250,000 homeless. The explosion endangered about 8,000 buildings, including 640 historic buildings, of which about 60 were in danger of collapsing. Source: United Nations
