Recently, this reporter had the honor of interviewing Li Dawen, director of the Management Committee of the China Police Sisters’ Fund, who has been busy on the front line of fighting the epidemic. When the Wenchuan earthquake struck twelve years ago, he was the secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of the Mianyang High-tech Zone Public Security Sub-bureau in Sichuan Province, and when the earthquake struck, all the police at the Qushan Police Station in Beichuan County, where he used to be, were instantly engulfed by the rolling boulders that collapsed behind the mountain. Dear comrades-in-arms died, and Comrade Li Dawen, who once served as the head of the police station, was deeply saddened.
In the face of disasters, the Party is our strongest backing. Secretary Guo Shengkun, then Secretary of the Party Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, also rushed to the hardest-hit areas as soon as possible to guide the earthquake relief, Secretary Guo went deep into the Mianyang disaster area to visit the affected people, encouraged and comforted the Guangxi special police who were fighting on the front line, and supported the Guangxi Special Police Command to Sichuan and Yang Xia, the wife of Li Dawen in the Mianyang disaster area, and some other police sisters-in-law jointly launched the China Police Sisters’ Special Fund. A special fund for police wives was established on 28 July 2008. The police sisters-in-law fund is used to care for the families and children of police officers who died in the line of duty, as well as cultural and artistic training for the children of civilian police officers.
Voluntarily retired from leadership positions to serve the families of public security police wholeheartedly
Ten years ago, Comrade Li Dawen had just turned 40, which was precisely when he was young and promising.
Comrade Li Dawen was awarded second-class meritorious service in earthquake relief, and in addition to his posts at the grassroots level, such as chief of police station, chief of political engineering section, chief of equipment section, director of the office, and secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, he had strong work ability, and it can be said that he had a bright future and a thriving career at that time. However, Comrade Li Dawen did not think about promoting officials and making a fortune, let alone about organizational promotions, he was thinking about his fallen comrades-in-arms and what to do with the children left behind by his comrades-in-arms! He resolutely decided to retire from his leadership post and engage in public security public welfare undertakings to serve the families of the vast number of public security policemen. The leaders of the unit felt that it was too pity, and his colleagues felt that it was too uneconomical, but he never regretted his determination and belief in contributing to the public security public welfare cause. The director of the police sister-in-law fund management committee has been taking on this burden for 12 years.
Dragging his disabled body, he traveled hundreds of thousands of kilometers to bring warmth to front-line anti-narcotics police and their families throughout the country.
Look back at the past, look at the present. In the past 12 years, Comrade Li Dawen led all the employees of the Management Committee of the China Special Fund for Police Sisters, dragged his seriously ill body, endured the scorching sun, and braved the scorching heat.
Especially in recent years, under the leadership of the National Narcotics Control Commission, the Narcotics Control Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security and the relevant leaders of the China Narcotics Control Foundation, Li Dawen, director of the Management Commission, braved the cold and heat to go to Guangxi, Guangzhou, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Xinjiang, Heilongjiang, Jiangsu, Hubei, Ningxia, Sichuan, Chongqing and other places to comfort the grassroots anti-drug police and their families. The Meishan Municipal Public Security Bureau delivered the condolence money to the front-line anti-drug police. On 22 February this year, when Comrade Li Dawen learned that a policeman of the Zhongshan City Anti-Narcotics Detachment in Guangdong had died on duty, he immediately asked the Narcotics Control Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security for instructions, rushed to Zhongshan City, personally delivered the condolence money to the families of the deceased policemen, and comforted the families and said that they would continue to care for their young children in the future.
On March 8 this year, the new crown epidemic broke out globally, flying out the most susceptible to infection, relatives and friends at home repeatedly discouraged from going out, but Comrade Li Dawen thought that Guangdong’s front-line police lacked protective equipment such as temperature guns and masks, he contacted protective equipment everywhere, mobilized his wife to take money out at a high price to buy protective equipment, risked being infected by the virus at any time, rushed to Guangdong, and delivered a batch of protective equipment to the Zhongshan anti-drug police. According to statistics, during his 12 years of public welfare undertakings, Comrade Li Dawen visited and comforted nearly 300 public security police, firefighters, front-line anti-drug police and their families, organized 22 large-scale anti-drug public welfare publicity activities, sent more than 60,000 copies of anti-drug publicity materials to students of 12 colleges and universities across the country, and showed anti-drug propaganda films for 16 primary and secondary school students for free.
Looking to the future, the future is promising. Social harmony and stability also require the work of the vast number of public security people’s police around the clock. The families of the deceased police officers also need long-term care from people from all walks of life! In particular, the vast number of anti-narcotics police, who risk their lives to fight criminals, many civilian police officers have been injured and died in the work, they need our care and care, the police fund management committee will further mobilize social forces, raise more financial support, care for the front-line anti-drug police and their families, and contribute to the anti-drug public welfare undertakings.
